Everyone knows I adore pirates. I mean, I wrote a book about a girl pirate! So when I came across The Pirate Mums, I had to read it. And what a delightful picture book this is!

Billy’s mums are not exactly, well, normal, their pet parrot is loud and rude, and their clothes are not quite prêt-à-porter. So Billy’s uncomfortable when they go with him on a school trip.
But when a boat trip goes disastrously wrong, Billy’s pirate mums save the day.
The Pirate Mums redefines normal and shows that there are all sorts of families in this world and each and every one of them is perfect.
Lydia Corry’s illustrations work wonderfully with the text by Jodie Lancet-Grant.
I recommend you add this one to your bookshelves. You’ll reread it time and again with your little ones. (Or by yourself, if you’re like me.)
